The tonosiena is a traditional shirt of the peasants of the Tonosi, in the province of Los Santos. It is considered a dress shirt as opposed to a working shirt, and it was worn for Sunday Mass and special ocassions. The shirt is also called guaniquena for Guanico, a town in the Tonosi district.

It is made of cotton fabric featuring stripes, usually in light blue. If features a Chinese neck and breast decorations that include tightly folded fabric and multicolored buttons. This buttons serve only for aesthetical purposes, since the cut of the tonosiena does not allow it to button up nor button down. It is put on from the top, as a t-shirt.

The tonosiena is worn together with black pants or jeans, cutarra sandals and a nice pintado hat. It's becoming a popular attire amongst folklore dance groups.
