Canajagua Folklore Festival and Three Wise Men Festivity at Macaracas

The chicha loja is a beverage based on corn. It is given during the junta to the voluntary workers in order to help quench their thirst and calm their hunger.
The juntas usually have several godfathers. They help with some of the expenses of the building materials, food or beverages.
Whent the mud is ready, people help carrying chunks of it so the expert builders can concentrate on pasting it to the walls.

The Tuna of the Embarrados is a spontaneous gathering of people who walk the streets of the town after the junta.
By: As we have done during the last three years, at the beginning of January, we travel to the town of Macaracas to attend the Canajagua Folklore Festival and the Three Wise Men Celebration. This double event represent the highest point the traditional celebration's calendar at Macaracas, a town located in the northeast of Los Santos province. This year we concentrated on the junta de embarra and related activities. The junta is a social event designed to help a family build their traditional house. It is build mostly of mud mixed with dried grass. After the junta, there is a celebration named the Tuna of the Embarrados. There, a group of people who just participated in the building of the house, walk around town dancing, singing and sharing the happiness of the family who has just seen their house built.
